Inn at Laurel Point - Victoria BC Hotel
October 18, 2010
For Immediate Release
So you think you can bake?
Oct. 18, 2010, Victoria, BC - The streets of Victoria's Inner Harbour will smell a bit sweeter next month as the Inn at Laurel Point launches its second-annual gingerbread house fundraising event. Participants have just one week left to sign up for the challenge - and the chance to win the title of Baking Grandmaster.
"It's a great event that supports a great cause - Habitat for Humanity," says Ian Powell, managing director of the Inn at Laurel Point. "And with last year's entries showing a great deal of creative license when it came to interpreting the traditional gingerbread house, such as pirate ships, turtles and igloos, those brave enough to enter this time around have a tough act to follow."
Gingerbread masterminds have until Oct. 31, 2010 to submit an entry form for one of three categories: professional chef, corporate or amateur. The sweet creation move-in date is set for Nov. 18 and 19, with the works going on display at the Inn Nov. 26. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite submissions until Jan. 2, 2011 by making a donation to Habitat for Humanity Victoria.
Rules and guidelines:
è There is no fee for entering the competition. Sign up forms are due Oct. 31, 2010 and the gingerbread move-in date is set for Nov. 18 and 19, 2010.
è Three categories to enter, professional chef, corporate or amateur, with four categories to win, professional chef, corporate, amateur and people's choice.
è All creations must be entirely made of edible ingredients
è Houses must fit on a two foot by two foot plinth.
è Entries will be on display through out the hotel from Nov. 26, 2010 to Jan. 2, 2011, daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Voting ballots and donations boxes will be found at the front desk.
