It’s the holiday season, which means it is time to be inspired by Canada’s National Gingerbread Showcase. Inn at Laurel Point has 25, 100% edible works of art on display (don’t eat them though!).
The public is welcome to view these sweet productions (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until Jan. 2!) and donate and vote for the People’s Choice Award. All funds raised from the public support Habitat for Humanity Victoria and its efforts to make affordable home ownership possible for families living in the Victoria region.
This year, each delicious creation is based on the theme “Around the World” inspired by travelling, traditions, cultures, and adventure-seekers.
For instance, “Wanderlust,” the first-place winner in the professional category, interpreted the literary landscape of our planet through a beautiful display of books. This spectacular creation is inspired by the desire to travel, through the imagination of books.
“The World in a Basket,” the third-place winner in the amateur category, showed their inspiration that comes from hosting international students in their home. They relish in the tradition of trying foods from the students’ home countries and “travelling” through taste.
Dia de los Muertos – Celebration of Life,” in our third-place professional category, shares the baker’s most beautiful and important celebrations from their native country of Mexico. The creation represents a joyful time that celebrates the return of deceased loved ones to earth.
There are more dazzling works of art with festive colours, amazing details, and heart-warming concepts, from Christmas carousels and trees, to globes, books and trains; this year’s showcase is an exceptional treat.
