Even though it’s just barely fall, preparations are under way for one of Victoria’s glorious holiday traditions: Canada’s National Gingerbread Showcase!  This wildly popular event runs from November 19, 2016 to January 2, 2017 at Inn at Laurel Point.

We are on the lookout for creative chefs and artists who would love to be part of the Showcase. Last year was by far our most successful event in terms of visits, votes and – very notably – donations to Habitat for Humanity Victoria. In 2013 we raised $20,000,  2014 we raised more than $37,000 and last year we raised a whopping $44,000! This event just keeps getting more popular each year and we owe it to our remarkable home and professional chefs, artists and sculptors.

If you are intrigued to learn about entering an edible masterpiece, THIS IS THE YEAR!! The Gingerbread Showcase is both a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Victoria, as well as a critical means of raising the profile of Habitat’s presence and work in the community.

And, importantly, it is also a fantastic opportunity to showcase YOUR imagination and talent. Tens of thousands of locals and visitors will see your entry at this high-profile event. Over the past few years, Canada’s National Gingerbread Showcase was featured in Canadian Living, and received wide-spread media attention on Huffington Post and ABC news.  In addition, you might win bragging rights by being chosen Best Home Chef, Best Professional Chef or Peoples’ Choice Winner!  Check out the rules here.

This year’s theme is AROUND THE WORLD.  Affordable housing is a major concern in all regions of the world. With your help, Habitat Victoria will be able to add to the 22 homes we have already built for local families!

Habitat for Humanity Victoria is a community-based, registered charity working towards a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Their mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners, to build affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.
