At Inn at Laurel Point, Earth Month is more than a celebration – it’s a time for our team to connect, get creative, and take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. This year’s earth month activities at Inn at Laurel Point have been a mix of learning, laughter, and environmental action, designed to bring our team together and highlight the small steps we can all take to make a difference. Throughout April, we’ve been hosting a variety of engaging, hands-on events for our colleagues to enjoy, and we’re excited to share what’s been happening so far – and what’s still to come!
Kicking Things Off: Alternate Transit Raffle
All month long, colleagues have been ditching their cars and choosing more sustainable ways to commute – biking, walking, bussing, and even hopping on e-scooters. Each time they do, they drop by HR to be entered into a prize raffle. It’s been amazing to see how many team members are embracing eco-friendly commutes, even on the rainy days!
FED Farms Presentation & Seed Packaging
We were joined by FED Urban Agriculture for an inspiring session on how their Vic West-based charity farm supports food security in the community. During the session, colleagues helped assemble seed packages that will be distributed to local groups in need – giving others the tools to grow their own food and connect with nature.
Beeswax Candle Making Workshop
Our beekeepers from Alvéole guided us through a relaxing and fragrant afternoon of candle making using beeswax! Not only did it smell incredible, but it was a chance to learn more about the role bees play in our ecosystem – and how we can support them.
Moss Wall Mural
Colleagues stopped by HR throughout the day to help create a collaborative moss wall mural that will be displayed in the building after Earth Month. This beautiful, textured art piece symbolizes our commitment to the planet and is truly a reflection of our team’s creativity and care.
Foraging & Gardening 101
This hands-on session introduced us to local foraging and small-space gardening with a focus on herbs and edible plants. We learned practical tips for identifying local species, planting on patios, and using what we grow in everyday meals. It was informative, fun, and got everyone thinking about their own green spaces!
Coming Up: Earth Day Clean-Up
Next up, we’ll be heading outside for our annual Earth Day Neighbourhood Clean-Up. Colleagues will team up to collect as much waste as possible – and the person with the biggest haul will win a prize! It’s a great way to give back and help keep our beautiful corner of Victoria looking its best.
Coming Up: Sustainability Trivia Week
Departments will go head-to-head in a week-long sustainability trivia challenge. Everyday, HR will drop by with a question, and the department with the most correct answers by the end of the week will win bragging rights – and a prize!
We’re halfway through the month and already so proud of the energy, creativity, and teamwork that our earth month activities at Inn at Laurel Point have inspired. These moments are a reminder that doing good for the planet can also bring us closer together.
