Top Canadian Hotel Unveils New Name and Look

Victoria, BC— Renowned for taking exceptional care of its guests, one of Canada’s prized hotels decided it was time to pamper itself. Victoria’s Inn at Laurel Point, formerly the Laurel Point Inn, just unveiled the results of a $5 million dollar renovation.

The makeover includes a new waterfront restaurant and outdoor patio, and contemporary decor for all 200 rooms, as well as the addition of many deluxe amenities. New distinctive wood furniture, modern artwork, chocolate-brown leather couches and plush bedding up the style quotient in the Inn’s 200 suites. Similar design elements flow into the restaurant, providing an atmosphere of sophistication and casual fine dining – ideal for jeans and pearls.

Managing director Ian Powell says the goal of the update was to add panache, while keeping with the owners’ original vision for the Inn. “When the Arsens’ bought the Inn in 1980, they created a haven for guests – a place to rejuvenate and appreciate the waterfront surroundings,” says Powell. “The renovations and added luxuries really honour that vision.”

The Inn commissioned celebrated interior designer Robert Ledingham for the renovation. The ideal designer for the job, Ledingham effortlessly captures the Inn’s local personality. His history with the Inn dates to 1989, when he worked with renowned architect Arthur Erickson on the hotel’s addition, the Erickson Wing. Both Ledingham and Erickson are known for their use of clean lines, architectural patterns, contemporary accents and natural colours.

“We’re beyond thrilled with the results,” says Powell, who, along with hotel manager Scott Hoadley, forms a veteran hotelier duo known for leading world-class hotels. “The Inn is truly something exceptional. We have a spectacular view and location, and compliments to our staff are never ending. Now, we have the special touches to really shine.”

The Inn at Laurel Point is an independent, Pacific Rim-inspired waterfront Inn located downtown on the edge of Victoria's Inner Harbour. Condé Nast Traveler (2007) rated the Inn as One of Canada's Top 25 Hotels.
