Inn at Laurel Point - Victoria BC Hotel
September 4, 2012
Victoria, BC - The West Coast city of Victoria, BC will be an all-out baking throwdown this winter as the Inn at Laurel Point has, for the first time in history, opened this signature competition - Canada's National Gingerbread Showcase - to bakers across the country.
"For years, Inn at Laurel Point, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Victoria, has highlighted the talents of Victoria's professional and amateur chefs while, at the same time, raised awareness of the incredible work carried out by this local charity," said Ian Powell, managing director of Inn at Laurel Point. "By extending the reach and increasing the exposure of this event, we hope to put Victoria on the culinary map and generate even more funds for this important cause."
With the event slotted for Nov. 24 to Jan. 1, 2013, professional and amateur bakers alike are invited to compete head-to-head in their respective categories by creating elaborate gingerbread creations that are made of 100 per cent edible ingredients. Canadian bakers can sign up for the challenge later this fall (call 1-800-663-7667 for more information), with first, second and third place People's Choice Awards being awarded in early-January 2013 by a panel of judges.
In addition to hosting Canada's National Gingerbread Showcase, Inn at Laurel Point is offering a Gingerbread Package from Nov. 24, 2012 to Jan. 1, 2013 that includes one-night accommodation; a special gingerbread welcome amenity; gingerbread dessert for two in AURA; and complimentary parking. The package starts at $124 Cdn plus taxes (based on double occupancy and subject to availability).
During Canada's National Gingerbread Showcase, members of the public are invited to view the sweet creations and, in exchange for a donation to Habitat for Humanity Victoria, vote for their favourite. Last year's event had a record 25 entries and raised thousands of dollars. All funds support Habitat for Humanity Victoria and its efforts to make affordable homeownership possible for low-income families living in the Victoria region.
